Video keeps skipping

Over the last while the video on my Macbook Pro keeps skipping. The audio plays fine but video on internet videos and videos played from the computer are constantly freezing and resuming. I've cleaned up my hard drive so over 40gb is free, there's 4gb ram and everything is updated. Any ideas of what can resolve this?

Updating your version of Flash/Silverlight/whatever kind of videos you're trying to play.

Everything is up to date, I've downloaded all the latest updates I can.
