Can we get some more news? Something. Anything?

Just so I don't have to see that guy's face every time I check the site?

I'm waiting for the "Verizon iPhone used to make a call" article. And then the "Verizon iPhone used to surf the net" article. Can't wait!

and to everyone being so condescending about us folks who are apparently late in getting an iphone device, not every state has had at&t selling phones therein. i live in south dakota and we just are getting it because they are forced to purchase out the alltel cellular network in our state to avoid a verizon monopoly of cellular services. elsewhere verizon has purchased alltel. so i'll be hoopin and a hollerin over my iphone when it comes here next month with at&t going live in SD. it'll be exciting for us. maybe instead of insults, you can be happy that we will finally enjoy the thing you have had since last june. it'll be a happy time.
Agreed.
as far as dissing people that are redneck and "stupid" cause they held a camera wrong, how bout you come out on the farm and try moving a tractor out here? the cab looks like a space shuttle cockpit with military grade gps tech installed. you wouldnt even know how to honk the horn.
we wont have any trouble coming to your big city highrise and working your elevator.
So, phone=elevator=tractor? This is not as good a response as you think.

I think if I were able to get the tractor moving I would be able to, generally, get to going in the path I want to go and not end up going 90° in some other direction.

What precious resources? The video file on you tube's server? The cache of the file on our browsers (If we bother to start it)?

If youtube's resources are filled and something more important needs to be uploaded, the can just delete the file.

I agree that it's a pointless video and for years that will be out there (could be a LOT worse, I'm sure lots of teenagers are going to regret the things they post of themselves on the internet) But this is hardly the greatest example of a waste of time.
I agree it's not the greatest waste of time, but along with 99% of the crud on youtube, it serves no purpose. My point is that uploading every minutiae of our lives serves no purpose and that we should find better uses for our time and resources. Yes, the video file in youtube's data center and everything it takes to put it and keep it there. They don't delete them as far as I know and the bits live in at least 2 places when you factor in SAN redundancy. They just keep expanding with more computing power and more data center(s). Computing systems = more coal that has to be burned. The bigger they are and the more capacity they have to have = even more coal burned. Of course this one file doesn't amount to much and isn't the greatest waste of time or resources by itself, but taken with the other pointless material, it is a huge one. When you consider how many petabytes of pointless and useless data is stored on the Internet we have a problem. I have seen the point made many times, but again, 'no one rain drop causes a flood'. Youtube/Google keeps making this service available and stores the crap indefinitely because it makes money from the content that does get watched.

Not to mention how many people hours are spent watching pointless material. TV can be just as bad. Not every minute of my life is spent expanding my mind and bettering the world, I need to improve too.

Our behavior has consequences. I'm just saying it is time we recognize how wasteful we are. Video consumes millions more times storage than text and when almost none of it has real value to our society, why do we create it and keep it? If it has a real purpose, fine, but most of it is vanity, narcissism, or some other selfish reason. Sharing videos of your kids with grandma is one thing, but that is an extremely small amount of the content.

I think you want to change the nature of people. There are a lot of dumb people out there who will spend their time doing pointless things. If People were different and most spent their time doing fruitful activities then Youtube would not exist (at least not as it is now)

I'm a 25 year old small business owner. I dont wear suspenders or talk with a southern accent. I wear fossil watches and John ROAR clothing. I live in Kentucky, and own a knife and gun.

And if anyone ever breaks in my home, I will use those and any other means necessary to keep them from reaching my family. Period.

Owning weapons does not equal redneck in my opinion.

No. But maybe that you feel the need to reference Fossil watches and John ROAR clothing does.

Not to mention that your "small business" consists of selling homemade chew and moonshine.:)

I waste my time by posting on forums.

Posting about how other people's posts (video or otherwise) serve no purpose is just as useless. ;)

The internet is an amazing beast. But it is also the biggest time sink I can think of!

If people like "him" are getting iPhones these days....:D

Damn...the world is going down the drain....

Longing for the days that Apple was sort of exclusive....

Thank god we still have Mac computers which are not a main good...

People like him? Apple has sold you the vision of what a Mac user / iPhone user is for so long that you actually bought it.

That is one sweet knife!

I'm actually happy for the guy. I know that Verizon guys and gals have been waiting for their moment for a few years now. Cheers Verizon people!

Guilty as charged. ; )

Although I care less about how they spend their time than the damage they do. That is what concerns me.

I was skeptical at first that someone wanted to be the first to post a video. Seeing as I couldn't make out the address when they zoomed in on it. Then I realized the packaging on the front had the different antenna break than my AT&T box. So, hopefully the guy gets a ton of hits on his youtube page. I am glad to have reached 100 on the videos I have posted.

My post is not useless if it makes someone think about it. The point is the needless waste of electricity. I don't care about the time spent as much as the volume. Our little text post exchange here takes less than 1 KB. Not so much to store in a data center. That video, say it is 30 MB, or 30,720 KB. That is over 30,000 times more disk space consumed than the same information posted in a forum. Disk space that must be available 24x7 and lasts for many years. Imagine millions of these useless posts. See my point? He could have put up a post with his news and saved a ton of resources. That goes for all of us.

Read my previous post again, I think you missed my point.
