The pass through has been my only complaint (I love this thing!), but I think there is something wrong with the pass through. Not sure if it’s software or hardware. I have watched numerous YouTube reviews which are using SCREEN RECORD (not the 720P mirroring), their pass through looks nothing like mine. Mine looks like I’m looking through frosted glass and I’m tripping on acid. If some devices are crystal clear and others aren’t, I suspect they might have some faulty hardware.
You are correct, all the previews and recent influencer reviews made it seem like it was a lot clearer.

Wonder if an update might fix this issue ?

I tried 3 different Vision Pros in the crazy bright Apple Store - I was there 3 painful hours. There was some slight variation between the 3, but all of them were low res/out of focus, even things close to me like my hands. I even tried some lenses because it made me paranoid there was something wrong with my eyes lol, but the UI is perfectly clear so that's def not the issue.

Keep in mind the pass through that we see in all the reviews is a screen recording....which is what the outside cameras see. This will NOT be the same quality WE see when it is then viewed from the inside of the headset after being transferred to the lenses. Disappointed for sure. But the quality is certainly good enough to safely walk around when needed and see the screens on our phones, Mac, or watch. I am grateful for that.

I thought I was going crazy about this, but mine is also low res and frosted. I’ve been trying to read a password from my phone so setup my email but I just can’t do it.

I did shoot some screen capture and of course everything looks good.

The apps are all crisp and the OS is too. But anything outside/around me is blurry to the point of not being able to read it.

You should be able to read text on your phone. Objects at a distance are certainly not crystal clear. Screenshots are captured by the exterior cameras, not what’s being displayed on the lenses.

Yeah this was the first thing I noticed. If this is supposed to be way better than other headsets then I can’t imagine pass through being remotely usable on the Quest etc. Then again my place isn’t very bright and I have yet to try it outside or somewhere with proper lighting. Once any virtual content is up, or if I dial up the environment setting, then everything looks amazing.

Also whatever distortion correction they do can’t handle certain shapes well. So if I set up a DJI Osmo Pocket in front of myself, which is a fairly thin long camera, then it starts to lean/distort whenever I look side to side, while everything else around me looks perfect.

Well no one can say you didn’t try! My experience is somewhat different…yes its clearly not as sharp as my natural eyes, to me it’s like looking through thick glass, but it’s not so bad that I can’t easily read text on my iPhone or recognize people across the room. Heck for me it was good enough to watch my wide screen tv while wearing it and answering email on it lol. I do have to look right at whatever I’m interested in.

Yep, it does need decent lighting to work well which I found out when I turned off the lights while wearing it lol

I might need to try this in a brighter setting as my place is generally pretty dark.

I don’t agree with a lot of the comments here. When I use the demo in the Apple Store it was crystal clear the apps in the Vision Pro as well as the pass through everywhere. I think it has to be some kind of calibration.

Perfect example - listen to this review of the passthrough from Marques. He never once mentions things being low res and out of focus looking. He instead says there's fantastic clarity, gives sharpness as an example for why, and shows video that looks truly sharp. He then says you "almost" feel like you're looking through it, which is 100% not the case for me lol

You have to remember that all these "reviewers" have to be careful for what they say, since companies like Apple etc are how they make their living. But yeah, it's not even close to "almost" feeling like you're looking through it.

Wonder if he would have the same experience with an "off-the-shelf" unit rather than a review unit ?

I think you need more than a quick demo. For me it was a period of 3-4 days and then I tried to get over the shortcomings during the next 2-3 days.
On day 1, I was blown away by the Vision Pro. The sheer size, the UI, and gestures. Used it for about 3-4 hours and was amazed.
On day 2, I started to notice glare especially in dark scenes, visible pixels when the image was massive, and jagged text that was nowhere near as clear as my iPhone.
Day 3 the FOV became an issue and realized the pass through was blurry especially in darker scenes.
I probably put about 35 hours in the headset and after 7 days I returned it bc the limitations are just too large for me. Good luck!!

Honestly I feel like most people have this experience- I can’t imagine that all the reviewers forgot to mention that hands and people’s faces are out of focus. I can’t for example make out someone’s face who’s 15 feet away, and even if they are close, they are still blurry. Yes I can see my surroundings but def massively disappointing and a HUGE surprise. We should do a poll I wonder

I think this matter of blurriness and grain is subjective. What one person finds terrible another person doesn't pay attention to. Like another person who replied, I am near sighted and I am used to a blurry world when I dont have my glasses on. I dont ask for the APV to give me a crystal clear pass through experience. It's enough that I can read my iPhone screen with no problem, I certainly can identify my wife from 15 feet away (though wouldn't that be fun if I couldn't at a party lol, sorry my wife, its not my fault its the APV!), I have no problems moving about. What more do I need? So when someone asks me if it's blurry or grainy I say my truth, not particularly to me. Anyway, I guess it depends on expectations and what you want.

I do know this, it's not like a screen capture, it really does depend on what you are looking directly at to be in sharp focus. if you are using peripheral vision, yep its going to be blurry. Even for me :)

Ape is offering complimentary set up sessions to help w your device.

I am going to set it up
although I don’t care about pass through. I see well enough. I noticed that my iPhone screen is slightly undulating but I can read it. Everything else is clear enough.

I just see why I need it yo be like my eyes viewing the world.
