I have VLC on my iphone and it cannot play 720p vidos, it stutters and i even get a warning before i try and play it telling me it probably won't work.

If i convert the video in handbrake using the apple tv 2 preset, it stays at 720p, but is in a format supported by the ios videos app. In this mode it runs perfectly, no stuttering, full airplay support.

Does this mean the official video app can support hardware acceleration but other video apps can't?

How do the ipads handle HD videos in apps like VLC and Cinexplayer?

I got the same message on my iPad 1 when watching 720p videos through VLC. Then again, the iPad and iPhone 4 have similar specs so it's expected I guess.

Interested in the response from iPad 2 users though...
