If you've been missing Fortnite on the iPhone and the iPad during the Apple vs. Epic Games legal battle, Microsoft has good news for you - the Xbox Cloud Gaming service now supports Fortnite, which means you can play on your iOS device using Safari or another browser.

In our latest YouTube video, we thought we'd check out Fortnite through the Xbox Cloud Gaming service to see how it works, what the gameplay experience is like, and whether it's a suitable substitute for a native app.

Fortnite is the first free-to-play game available through the Xbox Cloud Gaming service, which means there's no cost at all to play. All you need is a Microsoft account that's linked to your Epic Games account and you can log in and play right alongside your friends.

It's Fortnite, so there are, of course, plenty of in-app purchases to be had, but the core gameplay experience is entirely free. Xbox Cloud Gaming is available in 26 countries and while it's still operating in a beta capacity, gameplay is not bad at all.

There's a small amount of input lag playing Fortnite, but that may vary depending on your location and your connection speed. It does impact first person shooter games like Fortnite, but ultimately, we were able to navigate and play without issue.

You can play using touch-based controls right on the iPhone or the iPad, or you can connect a controller for a more console-like gameplay experience.

It's worth noting that Nvidia's GeForce NOW service is also working on a browser-based version of Fortnite that's currently in closed beta, but Microsoft's version is available now to everyone. We did try Fortnite through GeForce NOW, and it's a very similar gaming experience.

All in all, if you want to play Fortnite on iPhone or iPad while on the go, or if an iOS device is your only device, the Xbox Cloud Gaming platform is a viable solution that's worth checking out.

If you play with touch controls you get to play Fortnite mobile. If you play with a connected controller i.e. Xbox or PS4/5 you get to play the console version.

But otherwise I also tried it on my iPad and I was actually impressed by it. If you have a stable connection it runs pretty good ?. Microsoft actually doing something right for gaming on iOS!

Latency honestly is very marginal. Sometimes I don’t even feel it at all. Way better response rate than PS Remote Play.

I absolutely love the technology behind this concept and applaud them but even that isn’t enough for me to even try out that game at this point

“You see judge, when we said there was no recourse, like… ok THIS was a recourse, right. Instead of going against our agreement with Apple and sneaking in that pay page, we could have just removed the app from the store, no muss, no fuss, that’s right. But I mean… we still have standing to sue, yeah?”

?

Not even a little.
Never played. Seen it played not at all interested especially after the insulted the Million Man March from MLK Jr license approval!

I was honestly blown away by how responsive the touch screen controls were. Quality didn’t look grainy and I think the untrained eye wouldn’t notice the lag.
What did you expect it’s on an iPad ;)

I don’t know what it is but this Fortnite game seems outdated now.
Very dated. I have no idea why macrumors keeps posting about it. Seems many posts here are agnostic to care about Fortnight, you and I included.
The point is to show you can play console games on iOS via the cloud using Xbox Cloud Gaming. Not just to play Fortnite ?‍♂️. Who wouldn’t want to play any game on any device ?.
It’s not just Xbox and PlayStation as well.

What you’re forgetting. Is you need either system and an account in either to get this happening. Not the kind of celebration being as easy as you’ve stated, right?

I found it derivative and pandering. The game feels as if it was developed by committee and features were led by marketing. The only thing more barren than the art style was the story. You couldn’t get a star out this game if the entire cast of tiny toons dropped a piano on it.

Gamers
If you don’t like Fortnite, then don’t play. Why does everyone always need to **** on other peoples hobbies.
Because the game was made by a company that has demonstrated a complete lack of respect for Apple’s customers.

Playing FPS games via cloud services is just like Epic itself, a joke. If you play Fortnite via Xbox cloud, does this mean you are playing a joke via a joke?
