What kind of Mac are you running and are these artifacts associated with lockups/freezes? The last time I saw artifacting like that was right before I sent my 20" Core Duo iMac back to Apple for a logic board replacement.

 

[Mac Player]

MacBook Pro C2D 2.16, 3 GB RAM.

The artifacts go way if i terminate the WindowServer, but sooner or later the come back.

The computer doens't freeze btw.
