I just bought the new macbook (2.0Ghz, white) and Im have to say that i am very happy with it. (Oh, im a convert). BUt there is just one thing thats been bothering me. My videos (.avi) arent playing on quicktime. I dont know what the problem is. The DVD player is working, i checked that, but when it comes to .avi videos nothing happens, the quicktime window stays white, although i can see the marker moving ( which means that the video is playing). I tried downloading divx for mac ( to get video codecs and stuff) but it still doesnt work....can anyone help me?

The problem is likely with the file, as there are (annoyingly) numerous .avi encoders, some of which are compatible natively with QUicktime, some of which are compatible with a free (or, in some cases, pay) plug-in, and some are currently not at all compatible with Quicktime. So your options are either using VLC (which is a great program, I use it all the time) or downloading ffmpeg and converting them all to .mov files, which is time consuming and, since the files are usually around twice as large, space consuming as well...

if you search around on these forums and on google, you're sure to come up with links to intel versions of the divx and xvid codecs which should cover the majority of your avis. the rest of them you should try vlc.
