Video Rendering on a iMac (Ram Vs. Cpu)

hi guys i have a bottom line 27inch imac,i got it for video editing and basic web surfing. Ive been using screen-flow and imovie to render my videos,nothing to special.although my imac does render fast compared to my pc,i would like to speed it up a bit.
my question is,will upgrading my ram to 8gb from 4gb speed up render times or is the cpu in charge of that?

The CPU is in charge, but upgrading to 8GB RAM might save you a minute or three in a one hour rendering process.
