Apple released a second-generation version of the AirPods Pro back in September 2022, and the updated earbuds have now been available for six months. MacRumors videographer Dan Barbera has been using the AirPods Pro 2 regularly in order to update readers and viewers with a longterm review.

As a refresher, the AirPods Pro 2 offer improved Active Noise Cancellation compared to the original version, along with Adaptive Transparency to cut down on sudden, loud sounds like sirens and construction work without blocking out all noise.

Sound quality has been improved with a new audio driver, there's an H2 chip, and Apple swapped over to Bluetooth 5.3. Touch controls are available for adjusting volume, battery life is up, the Apple Watch Charger can be used to charge the earbuds, and a speaker makes it easier to find AirPods lost nearby. Ultimately, there are a lot of improvements, but are the AirPods Pro 2 worth the upgrade over the original AirPods Pro?

Dan answers that question and more in his video review that covers durability, Adaptive Transparency, battery life over time, ANC, and other quality of life improvements. Make sure to watch the video, and let us know what you think of the AirPods Pro 2 in the comments below.

I've been happily using my APP1s for some time although not from original launch. I missed out on the mythical OG ANC but have definitely noticed its gone down in performance over the years. I'm tempted to buy these any time they go on sale for $199 but then keep holding out for revised copy with usb-c. Is that warranted?

Love AirPods Pro 2. However, it's time for Apple to consider bringing a USB-C port to future AirPods Pros.

Had them for nearly 3 months (thanks to the generous costco return window) and returned them a few weeks ago. The Bose true wireless 2 are simply better for me. Better noise canceling (a BIG deal for driving), better sound quality, better battery, USBC, and ultimately the fit is better. With the airpods the base version slips out too easily which is frustrating at best and expensive at worst if you're on the go and they wiggle out or even fall out completely. I used a third party "foam" tips and it helped.

The single biggest "awesome" factor is being able to use the FindMy with the case cuz it's so easy to lose. But with airtags being small enough to just stick onto the case of the Bose I'm switching to those.

If someone gave me these for free I'd be thrilled but for just a few dollars more you can get something that's better in every way. I believe the only thing I miss about these was it seamlessly could work on multiple apple devices whereas with the bose I gotta actually click on my laptop to connect when I'm on here. Saving that few seconds every few days was kinda nice. :)

AirPods (of all types) have arguably been the best Apple products I have owned.

That is said to be happening this year or next since the EU law comes into effect at the end of 2024. Hopefully we can just buy a USB-C case and keep our earbuds, but I would not be surprised if Apple just says "buy a new set". :p

My 1st gen Pros work fine, the 2nd gen would have been an instant buy if they were usb-c. I‘ll wait till my pair dies or till the next iteration.
That was my mindset but then I caved and bought them, mostly for the volume controls. I love them, but I am not looking forward to needing to upgrade to the USB-C case.

Though, I’ll admit that I’ve been using my Watch charger to charge the AirPods case way more than I expected.

Honestly though, Apple should have released a version with a USB-C case. Especially when the newest Apple TV remote uses USB-C. This is just planned obsolescence.

I had them for my birthday and I ended up returning them and exchanging for the AirPods 3.

The pros: FindMy convenience, and fairly good noise canceling.

The cons: uncomfortable to wear, muffled sound, and volume issues.

The AirPods 3 are great, they sound better than the pro and are more comfortable in your ears.

Why would they need to do that, they're the main character and no one else matters.
This had me cracking up.

Question - I switched from my APP1 and to Beats Fit Pro because my right APP1 bud would always come loose and fall out of my ear after just a few minutes of usage. No tip size made a difference. I'd like to get back into the APP, maybe after they add USB-C, and I'm wondering if anyone has had poor APP1 fit issues but better success with APP2...?

I wondering if the ANC performance decreases with use. Certainly the case with APP1 which I own.

The other question I have here is that the case can be charged with MagSafe or with an Apple Watch charging puck -- but does it magnetically attach to either of those or do I still have to fiddle to get he case in just the right position.

APP2 might be my next tech purchase to replace APP1.

I bought the 14' Macbook Pro M1, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and AirPods Pro over the last year and the AirPods are easily my favorite purchase. The original ones were great but the noticeable improvement I felt in sound quality, find my features along with better battery life was well worth the upgrade. One of the only bad things that sticks out would be the mic picking up and amplifing all background noise. I think they might be worse than the OG.
