I am just wondering, one gig is equal to how much hard drive space when put into a program such as imovie?

I think you're asking how much room DV video takes up per/time.

It's around 13GB/hour.

It depends on what format you are importing. There are quite a few. If you're importing from a SD mini-DV video camera, that's about how much room it'll take.
