MacRumors videographer Dan Barbera is in Cupertino this week to attend WWDC on behalf of the site, and today, he was given an opportunity to try the Apple Vision Pro in person.

Dan is one of the first people who has been able to test the headset, as Apple is only providing these demos to select people who were able to attend the keynote event.

While Apple did not allow filming of the headset and the usage experience, Dan did a video to recount his thoughts on what it was like and to answer questions from MacRumors readers and viewers.

Make sure to watch the video to get Dan's full overview of what it was like using Apple's new wearable for the first time.

People look so ridiculous wearing these AR/VR headsets. I've tried a few of them and I couldn't get past it. I guess I'm not a fan of wearing goggles unless I am skiing or underwater. I'm surprised most people's narcissism will allow it, but then again it's all about being glued to a screen or screens and avoiding reality nowadays.

True, but the first computers were monstrous as well. I hope it streamlines down to a more discrete (but still noticeable) form. Don’t need the in eye cameras from anime and sci-fi in my life lol

I wish I could get this just for gaming (for my console(s)). All of the current VR headsets just try too hard. I don't need a "game-on-rails" with the ability to use motion controls etc. Just give me an immersive headset that takes over my peripheral vision and a conventional controller!

Goddamn it really looks like a ski mask haha

Anyway, hope it helps those who can make use of it (devs mostly i presume).

It's not meant to be a device for show off (unless people are really silly)

Heck, even buying an iphone simply to show off is already silly, especially for adults

I think the software integration is very cool and Apple nailed it but I don't like the hardware aspect! I just hate the fact you have to put it on to your head. Keep in mind this headset is also heavy. So, don’t expect to be using it at all times.

Agreed. Give me Google Glass but made by Apple, with updated 2023 specs any day. I loved Google Glass. Someday they will be able to pack all of this tech into a similar device. That will be a good day.

After watching this video… this is exactly how I feel.

A Tech Party in 2024 and you walk in without your Apple Vision Pro. 🥽

People said the same thing about AirPods, and now no one even bats an eye at someone wearing them. First-gen will be a little bucky, but in a few years, this tech will be simply amazing. Apple, once again, isn't the first to the game but seems to have gotten it right.

@Dan Barbera Now after you have seen Apple Vision Pro. Can you also review unannounced Meta Quest 3 or Meta Quest 2? Let's do a comparison video, please.

This isn't going to be exactly what you want but Ars did a hands on review too and the author has experience with all the relevant headsets du jour and refer back to some other units like quest:

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/06/hands-on-with-apple-vision-pro-this-is-not-a-vr-headset

They depict a seamless experience in which the elements of digital space merge with the user’s actual surroundings completely. When you actually put on the headset, though, you'll often find that the promotional video was pure aspiration and reality still has some catching up to do. That was my experience with HoloLens, and it has been that way with consumer AR devices like Nreal, too.

That was not my experience with Vision Pro. To be clear, it wasn’t perfect. But it’s the first time I’ve tried an AR demo and thought, “Yep, what they showed in the promo video was pretty much how it really works.”
