Can Luna be used on the previous versions of MAC MINI and iPads?

Yup it works on any mac with a mini DisplayPort or tb3 socket. It might not be great on an incredibly old slow system but works great on my 2013 MBP.

I suspected that my relatively simple gameplay testing wasn't a good benchmark, so I did a test to see how far I can push it. Running on an iPad Pro 12.9 (2732 x 2048) via wired connection, I played a 60fps 4k Youtube video in Chrome.

The Luna definitely chooses framerate over quality. On fast moving shots, the resolution dropped to below SD (480p) but the framerate still held at 60FPS. It recovers quickly when it stops moving but I would have to say, this is not gaming-ready. It's fine for my need of testing simple iOS games and Photoshop but don't expect any miracles.
Was anyone likely to game on it? :) Saying that - It’s a good idea for streamers etc as you can put OBS, discord etc over on the iPad and leave the main display for the games.

How is this different than the Duet iOS app?

The Duet iOS app costs $9.99 and then if you want to use your iPad Pro as a drawing tablet using the Apple Pencil there is an additional in-app purchase called Duet Pro. This subscription is $19.99 per year to unlock a whole suite of features including: tailored algorithms for faster drawing response, pressure & tilt control, multi touch gestures zoom & pan, hover, line smoothing, color calibration and Pixel Perfect image refresh.

By buying a Mac Mini + Luna Display you are essentially bypassing the in app purchase of $19.99 per year to be able to use your iPad Pro as a drawing tablet using the Apple Pencil.

This information can be supported and found on the website, https://help.duetdisplay.com/faq/121330-how-much-does-duet-cost, if you don't believe what I am letting you know about the cost of the Duet iOS app.

i know they are not officially supported.
but does anyone know if the usb-c variant of the luna can work on older macs via somekind of adapter (TB2 to TB3 adpater, or USB-C to mDP with a gender changer maybe?)
ive got some newer machines rocking TB3 but still a 2015 mbp I use often.

id rather not have to buy two Luna's at the moment and would prefer to future proof
Forgot to reply to this back then, but since I just got a like on it I’m assuming I’m not the only one with the question, so this might help someone.

I did contact their support and they forwarded me to one of the developers who responded that unofficially he developed on an old Mac and used this adapter successfully during that.

I’ve been using the same one For like two years now with no problems
That said he did stress to me that it’s unofficial and it could break in a further firmware/software update
