MacRumors videographer Dan Barbera has been testing all four of Apple's new iPhones for the last few weeks, so if you're still thinking about getting one an iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max, or iPhone Air, you'll want to watch his latest video.

Dan walks through the features that set each iPhone apart, and he goes over what factors you'll want to consider when choosing a new device.

Thanks for the video. I agree with you that the updated front-facing camera is really nice. I'm using a 17 Pro, coming from a 13 Pro, and it has made a big difference on video calls I've had this week. I've even taken a couple selfies with my kiddos. The Center Stage feature is nice!

(I do wish I had gotten the regular 17. The Pro is just too much for me this year. If anyone knows whether it's possible to exchange an AT&T phone you bought at Best Buy but already mailed in your trade-in to AT&T for their 36-month carrier credits, let me know. I've got two days to figure this out! Otherwise, the 17 Pro is a really nice upgrade.)

My experience only: went from 13 Pro to 17 (vanilla).

So far, in ~2 weeks I missed a stronger zoom lens exactly once. But every single day, I still am actually happy by how light this phone is compared to a Pro phone. The difference is real, in one-hand use and device balance and how the phone feels in shorts pocket when walking around.

Totally do not regret the move.

Still have the 13 Pro Max and underwhelmed with the options. Got a new battery, girlfriend upgraded from the 12 Pro Max to 17 Pro Max. So she can take all the pictures, I'm not complaining. I played around with her phone and it doesn't feel like an upgrade I need. The 12 PM didn't have ProMotion so that upgrade made more sense. Holding out for the foldable and if that doesn't look good, 20 year anniversary is the following year.

iPhone 17 is near perfect but since it is running iOS 26.x beta [with no option to downgrade to iOS 18.x], iPhone 16 is better since it is running iOS 18.x

I think everyone should ask themself one question.

What would I need to do on this new phone, that my current phone is incapable of?

If it takes more than 5 seconds to come up with an answer, then you should keep your current phone.
It also might not really be a cure. Last year, my answer to getting an iPhone 16 Pro was "I'm tired of it taking 5 seconds from when I click the WiFi setting to getting to the WiFi screen. I'm tired if it taking 30 seconds after booting up before I can see my texts." But once I upgraded, it was no different.

Unfortunately the displays are not the same as claimed in this video and suggested by Apple’s identical specs.

The display manufacturer varies on all of the models, but the only model with a good chance of a good display that doesn’t go lurid green at a slight angle is the 17 Pro.

That makes that heavy, inelegant model more attractive than it otherwise would be.

Having gone Air to 17PM and back to Air.. I am very happy with my decision. Prosser nailed it in his video

iPhone Air. Because they finally managed to go thin. Because I’m no professional photographer. And because it’s definitely the easiest Apple phone to handle. Last, but not least, much better battery management compared to 16 Pro.

I was very happy with my 12 pro and felt no need to upgrade... until the lightning connector went from flakey to completely non-functional. I could get by for a while with MagSafe charging (although I prefer wired charging due to battery heating), but the loss of CarPlay was the real deciding factor in needing to upgrade.

I honestly didn't like the looks of the 17 pro at all, even though I loved the color options. But after seeing it in person and holding it, I didn't dislike it as much as I thought I would (and the orange helped push me over the line). I actually considered the 16e also, but went with the pro for the connectivity "pro" features: wifi 7, short wave 5g cellular. The camera improvements were also a factor but not as much.

After living with the 17 pro for a couple of weeks now I have to say that I'm happy with it. No regrets.

My current iPhone is right for me: iPhone 15 Pro. There was no reason for me to "upgrade" to the iPhone 16 Pro last year, and I still see no reason to "upgrade" this year either. I'll just save my money.
