your menu bar has more space with a notch than without? you sure about that?
You didn't specify "menu bar space". You just said space, so I went with screen space.

But I regress.

Omg. Yes. I’m aware. We’re all aware. We’ve been over that. I’m not concerned about the vertical space. I’m concerned about the horizontal space that is blocked by the notch. The one this video is showing as a problem.
Your sarcastic comment sounded like you didn’t understand that basic detail. Regardless, Mac OS already automatically wraps menu bar items around the notch so Apple will just add that feature for status bar icons. Not sure why it didn’t show up ion their testing, but it’s a non-issue which will be fixed in an update. It’s possible that the new screen’s resolution means that a little more is displayed horizontally which means that only half the notch affects what is displayed.

Currently, between the menu bar and status items (Google Drive, Adobe CC, Dropbox, Docker, InVision) I have a full menu bar while running Photoshop on a 13” MBP right now. I run photoshop pretty frequently, because I get paid to! Were I to get a 14” I would have less space in that menu bar. Because of the notch. That takes up a good chunk of the horizontal space in the menu bar.

Apple hasn’t figured out how to handle that yet. And I don’t want to give them $2500 while they figure out how. They created the inelegant problem, they should have an elegant fix.
I also have a 13 MBP and I use Bartender to hide infrequently used status bar items in an expandable drawer; the icons are displayed while they are updating something. Think about how many of your menu-bar icons you actually need to see all of the time; those could be hidden from view. I also have the display zoomed out so everything is smaller which means that i have no conflicts between menu bar items and status icons. I just checked and combining the scaled view and Bartender means that around 1/3 of my menu bar is empty space.

But I’ll be upgrading to the 16” and we’ve already seen that PS’ menu bar items all fit on the left side of the notch. So I don’t anticipate any notch related issues with my new computer.
