Wait a minute, they're going to be totally gone? Is that right? I though Mission Control was in addition to Exposé and Spaces?

Better to say that Exposé and Spaces morphed into Mission Control. But Spaces lost a lot of functionality in the transformation. Spaces are more dynamic, as they can be created and deleted as needed and are not fitted into a rectangular grid. The new Full Screen App feature puts full screen apps each into a space. Sounds good, but at least with my trying it out (especially on a dual display system) it has been sorely lacking.

Oh no, spaces is one of my most used features and I'm on multiple displays :(

Did you provide feedback by chance? I can't install Lion on my desktop since its my main work machine to try it out yet : /

I won't describe how it is a problem here. After all, it's all subject to change, and likely will change before its release. I haven't provided feedback yet but I will.

I wouldn't (and didn't) install Lion on any machine -- it's installed to an external drive. I've got a few "mission critical" applications that aren't compatible, plus I don't trust beta-type software anyway.

I like the new download manager much better than Firefox's, IE's or the old Safari's. However the Chrome downloader still beats it for me. It takes up barely any space, its part of the same window, BUT you can see it all the time :D

WHY BOTH?

Am I missing something here?

Mac OS X + iOS = BOTH? Not a Hybrid?
Too much. Can you shut off "Dock" & just have Launch Pad "Desktop"?

iOS also has a dock, the four icons on the bottom of the home screen are almost identical to the MacOS X dock.

The Dock is for your most commonly used apps and is always available, the launchpad is for *all* of your apps and you have to click a button in the dock first to get to the launchpad.

IMO both are worthless. I use quicksilver (faster than spotlight) to launch applications, and my dock is just a task manager. I suppose this will have to change when I upgrade though...

There's no requirement to ever launch LaunchPad in Lion. I haven't tried Quicksilver in Lion but expect it would work. Alfred does, as does Spotlight and the Dock works the same as before.

I've never understood the speed argument with Quicksilver, Spotlight seems just as fast to me. Though, I gather my 16mb/7200rpm WD Scorpio Black helps quite a bit.

Anyway, I'm not sold on Mission Control or Launch Pad, but, I'm happy with everything else I see. I like the new log in menu, the upgrade to Mail is a welcome addition, and I actually really like the new scroll bars and buttons.

The biggest thing I'm hoping for though is better graphic card drivers and OpenGL support. Though I've heard nothing about either, I'm hoping Apple will have snuck some improvements in there.

I guess I'll have to find out for myself in July right? Or was release pushed back?

I don't find that there's any spaces functionality missing in Lion, in fact spaces just got made useful for me:
I can see and interact with all my spaces when I activate expose - cool!
I can add and remove spaces whenever I want - just what I wanted!
And I can switch between spaces with a 3 or 4 finger gesture.

Mission Control is great, it replaces Expose and Spaces and makes a better use of them. It's the biggest change in Lion and one of the best in OS X history.

No, but with state saving, theres no need to even use the dock anymore. Since I can't disable it, I can't imagine what will happen to the icons when I quit the application.

Literally all I use the dock for is to see what I have running, and occasionally switch applications. I use expose 99% of the time.

You never had to use the dock before. You could always use the task switcher to switch among running apps, and there have always been numerous possibilities for launching new apps.

State saving is an odd new feature in a way. Basically it is direct OS support, as far as providing an API, for state saving, like iOS does. However there are plenty of existing Apps that save state (Stickies is the most obvious one) and even with Lion not all apps will save state -- they will need to be updated to use the new API.
