As a new user to MAC from PC I'm having trouble viewing a folder of photo's (or any other file type) and flicking onto the next one or deleting. On windows I just opened a folder and arrow keyed through the folder deleting as I went. Same for any other type of file.

On Mac I cannot find how to do this as quickly?

I can hold the spacebar and flick through the files but only as far as one line of JPEGs. Then I have to select the next line and so on. Why using the arrow keys will it not just move to the next line down?

Surely there's a simple way I haven't yet discovered?

It's a good question, and I don't know a super-simple answer. However, in my limited test, you can do it with Preview.app (the default app that opens images) in this way:
  1. First, open Preview.app and ensure that Preferences-->Images-->When Opening Files is set to "Open all files in one window".
  2. Now in Finder select ALL images you want to look through. If you want all the images in a folder, you can press Command-A to select all of them.
  3. Right-click and Open, or double-click one of the selected files.
  4. They open in a single Preview window. You can enable Preview's sidebar and you'll see the list of iimages.
  5. Use down-arrow to navigate.
  6. If you want to delete the one you're viewing, hit Command-Delete to move it to the trash.
Still not as easy as I'd like, though.

Another idea: change the Finder window's display to the List view (View menu, or toolbar button) -- then use the up/down keys to navigate the entire list.
