iPad Pro Viewing photos in original ratio

Hi, sorry this is going to sound like a silly question; I have a photo I have transferred to my iPad, but when I turn the iPad portrait to view it, because it is not in (I think) 5:7, it stretches or zooms in to remove the empty space. Is there a way of stopping it doing this? I tried searching but to no avail - I don’t appear to have an option like Zoom Photos to Fill.

I have an iPad Pro M5.

I don’t think it’s a silly question, and I think the way the Photos app presents images is mighty defective and occasionally arbitrary. Most images get stretched to fill the screen, but oversized ones don’t get shrunk to fit it, and there’s no indication that a photo doesn’t fit the screen. I wish they’d fix it.
