Now that I’m hooked, decided to make this a solo thread. 😊

Vikings (2013-2020) Watching on Netflix, but this may have been a History Channel show. Six seasons, just finished season 1. Good story so far about Ragnarok Lothbrok, a Viking who is credited with invading the land across the Great Sea, England.

I did not know that Vikings made human sacrifices to their Gods. Ok, it’s possible that I might have known, but forgot. 🤔 They had orgies too. 😁

Vikings- Second Season portrays amongst the most gruesome of torture executions I’ve witnessed in a story without really seeing the gore. It’s the same feeling I had watching Mel Gibson being disemboweled in Brave Heart.

The story is good, and not predictable. Mild spoiler, an interesting character is an English monk, abducted by Vikings, converts to Paganism, and is recaptured by the English to become overseer of an English King’s secret Pagan memorabilia and art collection…so far.

Explosive climax for Season 2. This show employs a lot of misdirection at the audience. 😁
I am reminded, everyone’s name in England is “Æthel-" something. It’s a prefix that means noble…

This show continues to surprise me. I was, did this really happen? Spoilers

Season 4, close to wrapping up, this is feeling epic. the Vikings have raided the Mediterranean, one has established himself in Normandy into a position of power, and they are headed back to England to avenge an important person.

Season 5- Changes. Power struggles constantly in Kattegat. Vikings help Alfred in Wessex, finally get a real settlement in East Anglia. Floki seeks the Land of the Gods, and he thinks he found it, convinces a group to accompany him from Norway to Iceland. Everyone is pissed, what a Hell hole, at least the way it is portrayed in this story…

Vikings Season 6- (Netflix) Outstanding series, satisfying ending, felt epic! Ray Stevenson was a welcome edition. There was some historical accuracies and inaccuracies. :)

Apart from the historical and cultural inaccuracies, which may be partly dramaturgical, partly scientific, the series had at least a remarkable cultural impact: the pagan communities were - at least temporarily - more active than they had been for a long time.

I guess the orgies did not surprise me, you know live life to the fullest 😊, but the blood sacrifices did, which reminded me of the Aztec and the idea the gods were pleased by spilling 🩸 ie giving up something for them. 🤔

I was heartbroken when the series ended. This is one of my all-time favorites and worthy of another binge session or two because I'm sure that I'll notice more with the 2nd or 3rd viewing. 😁 Nah, it's just an excuse to binge watch again. 😂

I watched this one too when it first aired... I was knew it was coming and was super bummed when Ragner Lodbrok died. I knew it was coming but still it bummed me out to no end. Both me and the wife stopped watching it for a little bit. He was our favorite character.

The other scene that really got to me was when Bjorn fell...

Man, I miss this show. The music, the acting, the locations, the characters... All of it.
