The keyboard combination "option + delete" to delete a word backwards does not work in Vim using the terminal app. "control + W" does work, but this doesn't work in every other app in the OS. It breaks my workflow and I just want a combination that will work with all.

Any help please?

Vi is an ancient but most powerful editor out there, coming from the original unix systems. It is not supposed to be consistent with any graphical environment including OS X's. It is consistent, though, with any other Vi running on any other platform.

If you need common functionality between your editor and any other graphical application, you will be better with a graphical editor like textmate or textwrangler, among others. Both great and both free.
