Yeah, I liked it while I had it. I had a couple of the speed boxes and both of them failed after a few years. The Debut lasted for long time but finally died. I thought it was the power cable, but they sent me a new one for free, but it still wouldn’t start. I considered one of their higher end TT, but wanted something different so we went with the Marantz. There are a lot of good options at every price point imaginable.
Yes, I know that, and there are overpriced decks like the Linn sondek
Need I say more

Nice looking deck what make is it? And what is the other gear you are using?I should think there all high end.

There is just something magical about vinyl. The soundstage is more believable. There is space around the instruments. The even order distortion in vinyl has a pleasing quality. I am not a fan of CD or DVD-a which just sounds like high res cd to me. I love SACD which to me sounds more analog
Don,t forget about the covers .You have to have a magnifying glass to read the notes on CD.s

.This one the origanal one was a 3d cover, worth a few bob :)

This is the photo when I bought it. In the meantime I have changed the cartridge.
So it’s Project Xperience with Clear Audio Maestro V2.
The rest is:
Audio Analogue amp and preamp
Hegel CDP2
Leben EQ30 phono
Hydra8 power conditioner
Acoustic Zen Adagio spekars
And a huge bunch of interesting cables

Hi all, I am currently looking for a turntable as have been given a load of vinyls to join my existing collection and I was wondering what ones are worth getting for general listening and connecting to my MacBook Pro using either USB or RCA via a Behringer mixer. I have a budget of around £300.

Many thanks

You should be able to get a Sony PS-HX500. It isn’t the be all of turntables but it does have usb out and supports dsd (same format as sacd) and 24/192 ADC for about the best quality you can rip vinyl.

I must admit that Sony is already on the shortlist because of the DSD as I have got a Sony High Res Walkman. I understand that the software did have sone compatibility issues with Catalina which have now been resolved, but I am trying to find out if there are any issues with Big Sur.

Also I need to find out if it can be plugged into my Mixer and MacBook Pro at the same time as I would love to be able to hear it either on my independent speakers or through my mixer headphones whilst doing the recording & editing.

Since it it was stored and not touched for exactly 42 years the belt melted, but the rest is in perfect condition.
So I will definitely restore it to a working condition. Very cool actually, as I will then have also a B turntable for my setup :).

That is the sort of thing that perishes after a while. I was going to ask you if it was a direct drive, but as you say it is a belt one. Cool. :)

Seems wired, kids today wanna get Vinyl as collections, particularly ones with scractes lol

That cat is awesome.

Cool, it looks like you have a nice-sized room.
The cat seems happy sleeping. as they do most of the day:D

Yeah, she is old and sleeps a lot. She adopted us about two years ago when her original owner didn’t want to deal with her eye that needed to be removed. She is sweet and loves my dogs.

I am not “ kids today” by any definition. However, I don’t know anyone that wants vinyl with scratches... even kids today. That being said, I think scratches are rare even with very old records. I think you are referring to surface noise, which is much more common. However, it can mostly be eliminated by brushing the record and keeping the stylus clean. Personally, I still listen to more digital because it is much more convenient, but I also like the unique sound of vinyl and the more tactile experience. To each their own.

Thanks for you comment about the cat. She’s a sweet one.

Vinyl and Hi-Fi enthusiast checking in. I spend this past year putting together my bedroom setup consisting of the following:

Turntable, cartridge: U-Turn Orbit, Grado Black2
Integrated Amp: NAD D 3045, with Bluetooth, DSD and MQA playback compatibility
Speakers, subwoofer: Klipsch RP-600M, Klipsch SPL-100 10" sub

I also have my vintage system, currently in storage, consisting of a NAD 3020 integrated amp from 1978-80, NAD 5020 turntable from the same period, and Klipsch KG1 stand mount speakers.

Oh and I recently picked-up some vinyl. The Chameleons, Joy Division, used copy of Prefab Sprout, Talk Talk. Been on a 80's British rock kind of mood lately.
For my basement I have just recently purchased the Klipsch RP-500M speakers and the Klipsch SPL-100 10” subwoofer for my Onkyo TX-8270 stereo receiver and I am quite happy with the results. I am using a Thorens TD 240-2 full auto table I bought for a good price on sale with an Ortofon OM20 cartridge. Also have a Thorens MM 002 for a phono preamp.

Anyhow the Klipsch speakers perform very nicely for the price I paid... Have to watch for sales!

Does anyone know where I can get a Linn LP12 turntable serviced in the St. Louis area? I’m not interested in new tweaks, just belt replacement and cartridge check. It sat unused for many years. I bought it when I was in my 30’s when I could still hear ultrasonic burglar alarms. I’m now in my 70’s and probably can no longer appreciate upgrades. I just want it to perform as it did when I bought it. Thanks

I love vinyl, but I freely admit, it's not because I'm any kind of Audiophile. For me it's nostalgia. When I was a kid, my dad was a big AV guy, so I grew up listening to stuff on reel-to-reel and vinyl (and watching stuff on LD). After his passing when I was in the 3rd grade, my mom made sure I inherited his collections and old hardware (I still use his Onkyo, sadly I had a ****** period where I dumped a bunch of stuff that reminded me of him [comics, records, laserdiscs, and hardware]).

I've been recollecting old stuff, and buying new. I've been pondering upgrading Dad's old hardware and just displaying/storing the stuff I still have. Tho, honestly, I'm not sure where to start.

So, recommendations would be great, and if possible, I have a few questions.

What sort of hardware do you want, and the price you are willing to pay for it?

I know a bit about LP12s, but I'm not an expert...

No idea about the St. Louis area. But--stating the obvious--you might check with Linn to see if there is a dealer near you. You might also check to see if there are other audio dealers in the area who can work on Linn--I've known of audio dealers who don't sell Linn, but have someone on the staff who knows about LP12s. Sometimes, I hear, these non-Linn dealers actually do a better job than the official dealer.

The turntable probably also should have the bearing oil changed and have the suspension checked.

At one time, I was pretty committed to vinyl--there have been times when my system was turntable-only. At the moment, I'm currently not doing anything with vinyl, but hope to have a turntable up and running again in the coming months. But I'm getting by with a CD player--and I like how cheap used CDs are in my area. One thrift shop charges fifty cents per CD--but the CDs are often on sale for half price!
