Give me a break... I'm so sick of hearing people blast SE DC. Maybe you've heard of the recent crime sprees and killings in NW, Georgetown specifically?
And Baltimore has cleaned up its act a LOT in the past decade.
Yes, I have seen the crime sprees in Georgetown on the news and Southeast is getting somewhat revitalized (especially with the new stadium getting built), but Baltimore and Southeast still have a long way to go before they wouldn't be considered urban. I'd venture to say that crime in D.C. in general has been getting worse recently, but Baltimore and Southeast have historically been areas that have had problems. There was a fairly long period last year (or the year before--I don't remember) when the Baltimore homicide rate was at 1 per day. Annually, it still seems like they have 200-300 a year. If you don't believe me that there still isn't progress to be made I'd recommend visiting Cherry Hill, Sharp-Lendenhall, Mondowmin, etc, etc, etc in Baltimore and Anacostia in DC.
