Is it normal to have 4.09 GB of virtual memory? Just wondering. I have Activity monitor, Safari, and a weather widget open...

I have 8.97 GB with Adium, Word, Mail, QuickSilver, Safari, Activity Monitor and a VPN client running.
So I'd say yes.

Note that the Virtual Memory size you see is that absolute maximum each currently-running app could use if it needed it. The number has almost no basis in reality, and your actual VM usage is almost certainly much, much, much lower.

Okay, thank you for clearing that up!

Basic message:
Don't even try to think about what OSX is doing with memory management. It is much smarter than you and I, so just let it manage the memory and be happy.
