The feature that would cause me to take the leap will be the ability to “walk around” world sites. I want to simulate the experience of visiting the Sphinx or Piccadilly Circus. When I can do that for the price of a pair of plane tickets I’ll order it.

How close are we to this? If it isn’t here yet then what’s the limiting element, hardware, software, or content?

Can you elaborate on what you mean by walk around? You can’t actually walk around because the physical objects in your room won’t match what you’re seeing resulting in bruises and spilled coffee.

Personally, my major use of VP is for trip photos and videos. Panoramas don’t get enough attention. I’ve looked at panoramas after a trip and literally gasped. Spatial photos and videos are amazing I think.

Walking not so much. You can immerse yourself in 180 3D video where you're taken all over the world. If you want to walk around, load up a game whether it be a Vision Pro game or a Mac game streamed to your Vision Pro and "walk" around using your controller.

I don’t expect to physically move beyond head turning and some controller that would allow me to navigate the area.

This might be what I’m after!

There are many immersive apps that allow you to travel from your sofa:

• FLY - Explore the Earth - difficult to control
• Explore POV* (update) - updated with Desert Island, Aussie Rainforest
• Immersive India - 180 3D Spatial Travel Videos - slow to download
• Momentz - Curated 4K video display app. Not immersive or spatial
• Sceno* - Step Inside Memories; explore locations such as Paris Immersive gallery & panorama
• Voyager* - Airport departures/arrivals around the world

So what is your point? The apps you point to either arent' immersive or have substantial flaws. Apple could certainly do better.

I don't expect Apple to do a lot in this space beyond some immersive content they've released and will release in the future. But equipment to produce decent immersive "travel" videos is starting to become available, and I'm hoping for more from third parties.

I have done a bit of walking around using Sceno. The Apple (or do they use google?) maps are pretty good and you can save locations as favorites. My only real complaint is that you can only do small jumps. It would be great to use a joystick to navigate around a little more smoothly. I am onsidering a move in a few years to somewhere I will not be able to visit for a few months and it was great to get a feeling of the area. Sceno also scans your photo library and you can see a big map of where you have taken pictures and jump right to the spot it was taken.
