Hi, I'm running windows XP on virtualbox, on my mac (leopard) to be able to test my webdesigns on the Windows platform.

For fun i installed an old game - Settlers 3 ( I know its corny :p ), but it cannot initialize the game. I think it has something to do with a video codec, and possibly som directX stuff I need to install to get it running, but I'm afraid that this will tamper with the HOST OS and/or video card drivers??.

Does installing video codec and alike on a windows guest interfere with host?

I wouldn't want it to screw up my mac.
:)

/cheers

In a word, Nope. It's just software. Unless you're installing server software, there's no reason for anything to interfere with your host.
