Hallo, I spent almost an year with my beloved PowerBook G4... Now Apple has released the new MacBook, 4 times faster.
Since I am a developer working on multiple platforms, I badly need to run VirtualPC on my Mac. I know that VirtualPC 7 doesn't work on the new Intel-based portable, but I haven't heard any info or rumor about an upgrade of VirtualPC or something else about other software.
Any suggestions?

Thanks you all guys!

Andrea

P.S. Please, don't suggest me to use remote solutions like VNC or things like that. I travel a lot and I cannot carry more than my PB.

VirtualPC will be updated, but it will probably coincide with the current release schedule, which means it could be a while (I haven't heard differently yet). On their website, the only thing pertaining to it is a note on the support site that says that it may appear to install correctly, but will unexpectedly quit, with no time-frame given for update/patch. Virtual PC 7 isn't all that old, so it will probably be updated via a patch (Microsoft's favorite release mechanism) sometime late this year, I would guess.

You might also want to look into DarWine and the other freeware apps. I don't think they're available just yet for the Intel Macs, but I wouldn't expect it to take long.

Great news. I had to wait for a stable emulator since I need to work in a production environment. That's the reason why I switched to Mac. :)
May the force be with you!

I'd like to hear some more comments about whis product. I trust VirtualPC, since after an year of HARD work no locks have never happened.

Thanks for your reply.

well I can't speak for the technical aspects of the program but after reading about Fink and OpenOSX I'm staying away from that software simply from an ethical standpoint. It appears that openOSX ripped off Fink which is not cool.

Honestly though. Mac users haven't seen the real power of virtualized OS's until you play with VMWare Workstation. It makes VPC looks like its Windows 3.11 software. There are a TON of features in Workstation that simply KILL VPC. Also note that VMWare already has a *Nix version. and with OS X having a BSD foundation it shouldn't be TOO hard to port. More specificly I think it would take less time then it would take Microsoft to drag their heels into releasing VPC (Real PC.) for OSx86.

Might I suggest you guys sign the online petition http://www.petitiononline.com/vmwarosx/petition.html

I don't think they've actually shipped yet. He should change his sig to say "on order".
