Hey folks, is there a recommended virus and malware checker for Mac? The machine is running Catalina.
Thank you

Download MalwareBytes and run it:

IMPORTANT:
Select the "home" option.
It's a FREE download

IMPORTANT:
You DO NOT NEED TO BUY A SUBSCRIPTION to run MalwareBytes.
It will run FOREVER IN FREE MODE.

When you open it, IGNORE the button to "Upgrade Now" or "Activate License".
Just click "Scan".
Again, you DO NOT have to buy the pay-for version!

You probably won't need an antivirus, especially for macOS. Any app installed from the Mac App Store is clean. For outside apps, as long as avoid installing sketchy apps or from sketchy sources, you should be fine.

? When was there a widespread dangerous virus on Mac ? I always had virus checking on Windows but do not on Mac. I have been 100% Mac for around 8 years and have never seen any issue.
I don't do anything dodgy and don't download stolen software films or music.

I torrent a lot on Mac, and even doing so never had a hit from any AV. No one bothers with Mac really, and if they do OSX is really secure overall.

Hi, sorry if it is too basic, but i came from windows. Why we don't need the pay version?. It's not better to have monitoring software that block problems, in real time before they happen?

If you feel that's necessary, then get the paid-for version.
I find the free version (which one has to run manually) works "good enough for me"...

I think it depends on what you're doing with your computer. If you're going to mainstream websites (yes even mainstream ones in that catagory are fine) and downloading apps from legitimate sources then you really don't need anything. If you're going to some sketchy websites that may end with ru and downloading torrents for videos and music you might need more. Even a Mac isn't 100% invulnerable so don't think you can do anything and be safe. Perhaps a VM that doesn't have access to your file system might work but IDK
