Virus/Spyware Protection On Macs

Is it necessary? I'm new to mac and I have owned my MBP for over a month now and I want to protect it as much as I can. What are the absolute best programs out there that I should install on my mac for protection if necessary?

I don't think Norton stuff plays nicely with OS X.

That's becaues Norton slows down any computer. Although MacAfee is no better. It's a good thing we're on the Mac side of things now😀😀😀

There is http://www.clamxav.com/ which is free

its not automatic, you have to tell it to scan stuff

Can't tell if it works it never seems to find anything...😉
