Just wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on where the price of Vision Pro is headed in the future. Yes there will most likely be an Apple Vision, but for the Pro model do you think it remains locked at $3,500 starting? The iPhone price has only really gone up since introduction, curious what happens here.

I’m in suspense about the iPad Pro prices in March/April. If the rumored $1800 base price for the 13” OLED iPad Pro is true, I don’t think the Vision Pro price will go down significantly.

lmfao

Is that actually the rumor?

Who is buying those!?
My goodness

Now Apple will look and exclaim: we don't want enough, let's set prices even higher - people are buying fast. They sold out in one hour. ))))
4,500 bucks, and they'll take everything out of the box and add a sticker.

The original iPhone was $599. Apple sells the iPhone SE for $429.

I think the Vision Pro stays at a high price point (perhaps $2,999) but Apple will likely release an “Apple Vision” for $1999 and an SE around $1500.

Some day, the Vision Pro will drop to $2,999.

I expect to see three other vision products, though. Vision, Vision Sport, and Vision Jr.

Sport will be the cheapest adult model at around $1699. Vision at $2299. Jr at $1199.

Remember when the original iPhone came out in 2007, it started at $600 (a price that was incredibly steep for a phone at the time). About two months later, Apple dropped the price to $400. Those who paid $600 nearly rioted in the streets and Apple gave us early adopters a $100 credit. Let's hope they don't try that again.

That said, I could see a lower price on a second gen Pro model (around $3K) and eventually, a non-Pro model under $2K.

Here we are less than a week from the Superbowl. The lowest cost (least desirable) seat is now going for more than $5000 per seat on Ticketmaster. Sort of makes the current AVP pricing look not so bad.
Wish Superbowl would be available to watch the entire game in 3D as if you were there!

Agree, the next gen will be an "SE version" that has less features and makes it more affordable for the mainstream.

I’d expect pro to get the best upgrades. Meaning screen improvements. Micro led. Cameras. Etc.

None of that really means much unless this gets much better support by both Apple and devs. Guess we’ll see.

I'd think long-term the "Pro" goes to $2999 with a "non Pro" at $1999 for the foreseeable future.

People expecting this technology at sub $1000 (or even down to $1499) in any reasonable timeframe are probably dreaming.

Agreed, unlikely to see this tech below $1K anytime soon, if ever. It's easy to compare price points to existing headsets out there, but they have no where near the tech packed inside.

The thing is, just the "tech" isn't what tends to move these types of devices as much as the usefulness and desirability of the software/experience.

Gaming is a major, if not primary, use case for VR and it's hard to argue that the Quest lineup doesn't have a VASTLY superior software platform at the moment, and for the foreseeable future.

The device may not be nearly as nice, but it's also 1/7th the price.

I'd normally say "let's give Apple some time", but I'm not sure "more time" will ever solve anything gaming related for Apple. It's become a joke honestly (the thought of NOW .. FINALLY...Apple will get gaming)

Apple is only getting there if they start buying up studios, Microsoft/Sony style.

I wouldn't say it's a joke to give Apple more time.

Look at when Tesla first came out - they were laughed and ridiculed - now they are the kings in EVs.

I'd give Apple a lot of latitude as the VP feels like a beta / pre-production / developer testing first gen model.

I think the future for Apple's MR/VR/AR will be good to come!

I think the next price point will be $2499.. I don’t know if that is THIS model in 1-1.5 years or a new lesser quality model. They will most likely try and keep the $3499 model, with SOME sort of upgrade - but i think upgrading this further will take more than a regular say iphone cycle, more like an ipad cycle. So, I’m trying to figure out what is missing currently that COULD easily be put in the 1.5 year from now model and have it still be worth $3499.

I think a price point of $1.5k is a good start to reaching a larger market. There shouldn't be too many compromises though for a "cheaper" product - it'll take some time to evolve, but perhaps the Pro version would get newer advances like higher refresh rates, resolution, wider FoV etc, and the existing specs will become the norm on the older version.

Massive price depreciation for early adopters, but IYKYK - true early adopters know what they're getting into with first gen products.

Apple would like to reach a larger market, but they are never really in a rush. i think they have a 3-5 year larger market adoption plan, and as is typical apple, they will very gingerly dole out and upgrade features, to maintain pricing power and only slowly introduce a lower priced model when they really thin the larger market is ready for adoption.

I agree with everything you just said. :)

But

1) The AVP is much more than VR
2) People have been claiming the death of the Mac for literally 4 decades because of the better gaming apps on PC's. Hasn't happened yet.
3) All the games on the Quest doesn't help me get my work done, the AVP does. They are aimed at two different markets with two different approaches.
