Don’t fall for this scam, I pity the fool who is gonna part with his money. I would never buy something expensive with the buyer with only AVP listing, no sales, no rating on eBay. Op you jumped the gun mate!
Basic common sense tells you, the AVP is still under return window, or even cancel the order if it has not shipped. Why would any one sell for a loss.

Whether it's a scam or not it's not relevant. I'm looking at the number of bidders first one as 49 bids and the second one has 67 this tells me that buyers don't wanna pay over 3k.
People willing to shell out $3k aren't shopping eBay scammy looking sales. Once you're in that neighborhood, you buy from Apple. So of course the bidders there are not going to pay anything close to Apple's price, unless they're complete idiots.

Which... could happen. ;)

Well there's that or they could be located outside the U.S. and can't buy it from the Apple store.

Serious question: OP are you related to this most likely scam poster on eBay? Giving visibility to this crap. I mean seller should be an absolute fool to sell at a loss for product that hasn’t even been picked up. If this product was outside the return window, yeah may be just may be, it made sense.

There is no generalization in this post. Seller isn’t making a quick buck here. No one in their right mind is willing to lose money on an order than can expire or can be cancelled. Don’t fall for too good to be true scams.
I'm sorry I thought you were implying that all AVP listings were scams, my bad. Personally I wouldn't buy it but I know eBay has a good buyer protection program I used it two times because both products were defective. I'm thinking if these listings are scams eBay or Paypal will refund the buyers.

Could be for international buyers. The price is more likely 5k+ with 2k listed as initial fees for international shipping and the “early access” price.

It's already been touched upon, but there are MANY fake/fraudulent accounts on ebay and the first red flag is somebody selling something this expensive with zero feedback. The second is nobody would have any reason to sell this at a loss given they haven't even received it yet lol.

Nice try, but:
  1. Apple says the first AVPs are only being sold in the U.S., and they will not work with Apple IDs outside the U.S.
  2. I took a quick look just now and all of the eBay sellers that I checked with zero other items sold claim to be shipping to the U.S. only.
Of course, I maintain they're scammers so the point isn't that they are being truthful in their eBay descriptions. The point is that any supposed international buyers would see they are not shipping outside the U.S. so they would not be buying.

True, could be a scam, but he's still bound by eBay's Terms and Conditions. The low shipping rate doesn't mean anything. Sellers will often list items with a low shipping cost to attract buyers. The shipping would be subsidized in the item cost.
do you even ebay lol. "bound" doesn't mean shhhhhh in regards to ebay's terms and conditions. lmaooooooo

I just checked and I can see that sellers shipping internationally with good feedback have sold them for $4-5k, so we can be sure that people aren't bidding on this one either because they think it's a scam or they can order directly from apple.

This is clearly a scam eBay listing. And I take it another MacRumors thread trying to "prove" the Vision Pro is "dead on arrival," when the damn product hasn't even been released yet.

If the seller had 500+ positive feedback with a history of selling electronics, best believe that final bid would have been more in line with the actual cost of the product.

Old days = PayPal disbursement.
Current = bank account.

I have been an eBay seller since 1999 and have seen so many changes - not better for the seller, but more favored to the buyer.
Well this seller has zero previous sales on eBay, so their money will be kept at least 14 days in escrow.

Especially for a sum such as USD2,000.

There is no way eBay releases money to a new seller immediately.

As @Rychiar points out, it is most definitely a buyer weighted market place.

How this seller think they could pull a fast one I have no idea.

The second is nobody would have any reason to sell this at a loss given they haven't even received it yet lol.
It depends. Sometimes people use stolen credit cards or card numbers to buy an expensive product. Or, what's even more common, using stolen gift cards. Those people then buy desirable products with the stolen cards. Then, they turn around and sell the products at low prices to quickly get money before victims realize anything is wrong.

Sometimes the too good to be true deals might not be scams of the buyers (who can get the products in cases like this) but are thefts from others. The buyer is receiving stolen goods unknowingly, unless the buyer strongly suspects these are stolen goods and goes, "Nah, I'll buy anyway."

It's theft and racketeering. It also can be a form of money laundering. There's a high probability these listings involve some form of theft.

Yes, agree the ones that look legitimate are selling overseas to international eBay buyers.

Makes a lot of sense since the release is currently the US only....

To get a more accurate sense of current market value, you'd want to look at listings from sellers with excellent feedback (I imagine there are some?) There is going to be a significant discount on any expensive item from a brand new zero feedback seller to account for uncertainty about the seller.
