Always a day away
I'm headed to the Chicago area on Sunday 06/28 and staying a few days on business. This will be my first trip there, can anyone point me to some sights, nightlife, restaurants, etc?

Thanks in advance!

there are plenty of things to do, all depends on your interests, and where you are staying.

if food is something you like and love, the Taste of Chicago is going on at Grant Park, although its usually crowded, its always fun. there are plenty of great museums, sights, and places to visit and even though i've spent my entire life here i still haven't done and seen it all in this city.

I had a great time at the Lincoln Park Zoo. That's probably not one that a lot of people will mention. It's also free much of the time, I think.

it should always be free, i've never heard of them charging for anything other than parking, which is easily avoidable with public transportation. it is fun for a laid back day or a couple of hours.

a lot of people seem to like Navy Pier as well. there are some nice boat tours that launch out of there. Millennium Park is always interesting as well.

Thanks for the info, as I couldn't remember one way or the other. Lots to see there at any rate :).

The Field Museum is also well worth seeing.

I second the Field Museum for a visit.

There's sooo much to see and do in Chicago I don't think you'll be bored. It's worthwhile to just walk Michigan Ave. You'll find plenty to eat and nightlife is abundant.

One of my favorite cities - in the spring or summertime only.....

Try to get to a Portillos, its amazing.

Also the Architectural Boat Tour is very interesting.

I just go for the food. Gino's East Gene & Georgetti Thick potato chips on every bar If you're a baseball fan, that little gem of a park, Wrigley is a treat.

Sushi: Friends sushi. They use nice chopsticks too. Awesome calimari. I think I fell in love there. :D With the sushi that is.

Go see a Cubs game. man I want to go see one so bad.

And Weber Grill.

For the rest, take the above suggestions and be sure to go atop Hancock building or Sears Tower. Or both. ;)

That city is somehow magical to me.

If you're in Chicgo, you've got to get a Chicago dog.

Do the Cubs still play? I thought they gave up!! :D

I second all recommendations of MOSI and the Fields Museum. Great places.

And the great thing is that I live 5 minutes away from Portillos :)

Well yes I did see that but you made it sound in general. And to your credit, I forgot the date the OP was visiting. I'm probably going to catch a quick flight up there soon to see them play so that is the only reason I saw it. I want to see a game ... at Wrigley, no debate. :D
But you are right ... ;)

I wish I could stay long enough to take in more - unfortunately, I'll be working during the day and flying back to Dallas on Wednesday.

I've seen some great looking restaurants here - thanks for all the tips! I'll try to hit some of the "night life" as well. I'll have a car, so getting around won't be any trouble.

Well then, I guess if it makes you "a bad gay" (quoting you) for missing a parade then yeah. :p I'm sure you'll be forgiven.
