Heh heh, you've never driven in Chicago, have you?

I commute 40+ miles each way into Dallas. Takes an hour and a half in traffic. Chicago doesn't scare me.

I've lived here over 14 years, and one of the first things I noticed is that the traffic is about as bad as Washington, DC during rush hour, although not as bad as NYC - but about four out of five vehicles here are either pickups, SUV's, or 18-wheelers.

i personally prefer the Aquarium over the Field Museum, but both are great.

and Giordanos > Gino's East imo for pizza, although a place closer to where i live is actually the best i've ever had.

one other thing to do, that is just wonderful is to go down to the lakefront path for a walk, or sit on the rocks and just relax overlooking the lake, probably the best feelings i've ever had of clamness and serenity.

I'm flying in the night of the 28th, Lee - where's the afterparty? :D

All over the lakefront in Boystown- usually from Belmont down to Fullerton. It goes on most of the night! PM me if you want to hang out Monday. I'll be hungover, but still entertaining. We could have lunch at the Walnut Room or the Atwood. They are both classicly Chicago.

Go to Manny's Coffee Shop & Deli to eat a Pastrami sandwich - it's great!

Seems like I'm clearly not going to have enough free time to do all the things I'd like to do. :(

I don't think I can make lunch, coz I'll be spending the workday in Schaumburg, until around 5 or so. After a quick conference call with the mother ship, I'll have the rest of the evening to myself. I'll be with a co-worker, but we'll have a car - I'm sure going into town is going to be on our to-do list. I'm starting to get excited to go, now!

So many things to do, so little time...I sense another trip in my future

I've lived in the suburbs my whole life and go to school downtown and there is always something new to do in the city. I try to force myself to spend a couple weeks each year exploring for new things and have never been disappointed.

Since you will be out in Schaumburg, finding the Portillos won't be terribly hard.

I know what it is like to have to decide what to do in a new place on a limited stay. I'm planning my trip to Seattle and I have so much I want to do but time lasts only so long.

The modern art museum is great. The shop is good too - Lee those soft toys I bought made it home after my trip!

The aquarium and science museum were a bit aimed at kids for my liking so I would give them a miss.

Giordano's is amazing, it has to be the only food that I've eaten that actually looks as good as it does in the commercials. I'm lucky to have one about 10 minutes from me (right near Portillo's, too!)

If you are in the mood for Deep Dish pizza check out Lou Malnati's. There is one in the River North area (439 N. Wells) and one in Lincoln Park (958 W. Wrightwood). I also would suggest that you go to Portillo's for an excellent hot dog (100 W. Ontario)

If you are looking for something fun to do take the Wendella Boat tours. They are located on the Northwest corner of the Michigan Ave. Bridge (you have to go down to the water level to purchase tickets. If time permits I would also suggest going up to the Signature Room in the John Handcock Center, admission is free but they expect you to order a drink or two. Check out Millennium Park as well, I think they have a few new pieces of temporary Sculptures on display.

I hope you enjoy Chicago!

I second the Lou Malnati's! Especially since you said you'll be working Schaumburg, there's one there. Really cool looking restaurant too, my favorite of the ones I've eaten at, looks like an old house turned restaurant. They have seating on the second floor, haha.

Every time I go to Chicago I have to have a cheesecake brownie from Corner Bakery, delicious. If you have a car, try and get to Arlington Heights or Elmwood Park to have a beef sandwhich from Johnnie's Beef, delicious also.

If you wanna grab a drink on the cheap, hit up the L&L.

Enjoy Chicago!
