Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/3B48b Safari/419.3)

yes, it would be a great idea to buy one. I just ordered one myself. This would be a great machine to switch from the PC to, in fact that's kinda what its made for.

You can buy Apple computers from the Apple Store, CompUSA, or Best Buy.
    Best Buys are everywhere.

Also, some states (New Hampshire, Oregon, and Delaware, I think) don't charge sales tax. Something to consider, depending on whether you'll be near any of those states.

The mini is wonderful. It's tiny and more than powerful enough to replace older systems. It's not a gamer's system, nor should pros use it for demanding software, but my "old" dual-1.8GHz Core Duo mini works beautifully for all family tasks.

Heck yeah, the minis are easily available. Where in NY will you be? I would go get it from whatever's closer. No point in wasting $3.25 gas.

( shakes head in dissapointment!)

    MacMini purchase

What state will you be visiting. NJ is 7% tax, NY higher....

Delaware is NO tax! Thats where I bought mine...I got mine at the Apple store in a mall in Delaware.

And the size will be perfect for a carry home.

Each state is different in regards to tax.

If the OP is going to be in the U.S. pass January 15th 2008 then I would wait. Macworld is Jan 15th and if something comes out new or even a newer designed version of the Mac mini then it's worth waiting. But if you can't be here by Jan 15th then buy the current mini.
The general rule is it's always a bad idea to buy just before Macworld as there is always a big surprise.
