Doesn't F10 do the same thing?

I think what that poster means is that when you alt-tab in Windows, it lists different documents in most apps (e.g. Office apps) as separate "tasks." So if you have Finder and Word open with six word documents, when you Alt-Tab, you only see two options. When you do it in Windows, you see the six word docs separately.

Not saying I want that! ;) Don't shoot the messenger. I just think that sort of thing is what that poster is getting at.

Exposé does the equivalent, in essence; with the alt-tab type method, you have to use alt-tab and alt-` on Macs....

I think that's what he (?) is getting at, anyway.

alt+tab switches programs,
alt+~ switches windows within that program, very similar to windows' alt tab doing both I find.

The only thing of Vista that I think is a little too copying is their sidebar gadgets instead of dashboard widgets.

Yeah, but Apple got that idea from elsewhere as well (can't remember the name, it's now owned by yahoo).

Oh...you mean 512 MB system memory! Yeah...erm... good luck with that!

P.S. is that computer Aero capable? Are you planning on upgrading it to Vista? Just out of curiosity?
I don't think this one is Aero capable, it has only 32MB video memory, its a ATi 7500 mobile graphic card, doesn't even support DX9.

and no, im mainly using macs now, this old compaq is mostly for HoMM3 only, it still healthy, after 4 years, I kept registry and sys-config clean, so it runs well, but i don't want to put money in it anymore  .

I guess I will know which one is better sometime this year. My husband wants to get a laptop and he doesn't want a mac. I think he is leaning towards a dell. I wouldn't mind trying it out just to see what it is like. It has to be better than the previous versions of windows.

Though I don't totally hate windows, I like my os x so much better.

on a second thought, I might get a vista, if i can get a decent discount. lol, wait and see..

I try to never feed a troll, but this little tip may be useful for people who haven;t realized about it yet; press f10 to activate Exposé for a particular app, then press tab (just tab, not cmd-tab) to switch to the next app from within Exposé.

We need more people like you here. That tip was great :)

Furthermore, both Windows Server 2003 and Windows Xp have backup capability built right in, which Mac OS X lacks (currently).

Have you actually USED the backup built into existing Windows versions? It's a joke. Its default is to ask for a FLOPPY. It does NOT allow multiple backup schedules.

For the price difference between osx and windows, you could buy a .mac membership and get apple's backup, or you could use any number of free backup applications for osx.

nevetherless, OSX's backup is 5 years late

how is it 5 years late? the application included with windows is NOT a reliable backup tool. so basically, you have an exe sitting there to make you FEEL like you have something EXTRA when you actually have a safety blanket made from popcorn chicken.

sigh, if u wanna talk about it, there are many third party backup tools, like norton ghost, which exists for ...8 years?

windows XP has system restoration build-in.

I understand u have this attitude towards windows, but still, be fair, windows has a way for user to backup their files, while OSX didn't, and doesn't as of today. maybe you don't like the way it works, and I myself don't like it neither.

System Restore doesn't include user data (documents, music, movies, preferences etc.)

Two different things. Yes, MS may have something very similar and why shouldn't they? It's a good idea, MS do come up with good ideas every now and then, remember fast user switching?

The crux is how easy and how reliable both versions are. Do they work equally well or is one more intuitive than the other? We'll have to wait till Vista is more readily available and the final version of Leopard has been out for a little while to get a handle on what's the better way.

No point arguing over it now, we've got upcoming MWSF announcements to whinge and moan about. Gotta keep your strength up, especially those of us who are in for the long haul, 4am Wednesday morning (Keynote start time) is just over 13 hours away.

yeah, i agree, ppl better wait untill they both out and available, do some comparison, then make comment. rather than shouting "copy, copy" right now.
