Yep, first copy sold in Australia was sold about half an hour ago (ten minutes before the official launch) and was personally sold to the customer by Gerry Harvey - owner of the Harvey-Norman chain of department stores (which we call Hardly-Normal for their high prices and pushy sales staff) who is one of the richest men in the country.

Do I care? No not really.

It's now 12:20am here on the 30th and I reckon there are Windows geeks everywhere swearing at their screens right now.

Anything familiar?

Quite a bit actually :)

Outlook express has been ditched for separate Mail and Calendar apps that look a lot like Mail and iCal.

Not yet though - it's not the 30th there for a little while.

I personally won't be buying it - not even for my dodgy old PC that my mate (whose house burnt down and needs a computer) is using.

XP Pro will be the last OS that little thing sees until I get it back and turn it into a Linux machine for s*ts and giggles.

Sorry, no interest in Vista from me.

Katie Couric (sp?) interviewed Bill Gates this morning (watched before heading out to work). The entire intro was dominated by Jobs / Apple.

They tried to say that even though Apple had mind share, MS is striking back with Vista!

I laughed, my wife thought I was crazy, but it really seemed like they were plugging Apple. They even mentioned how MS had the Zune (*chuckles*).

Didn't stick around to listen to big Bill talk though.

My girlfriend (who knows nothing about computers, only uses a MacBook for the internet and iTunes) just saw a commercial for Vista and casually said that it looks a lot like the Mac OS.

I went to the Microsoft web site to see what Vista was all about and the little demo they have on line didn't run:confused: Probably that is what they want to actually show. :D

Damn!
Outlook Express was the only decent mail programme out there.
The only app that allowed you to view your HTML source.
It wasn't great, but better than Outlook, mail and Entourage.

Just watched the BBC News story about Vista release. In some of the graphics they used the Traffic lights close, minimise and zoom buttons when displaying facts and images from Windows. Also during the report they showed someone with a Blackbook.

Was just about to say exactly that! Morons...
