Hi, I'm looking for something similar to the windows vista sidebar ( the 'widgets' on the right hand side of the desktop. The mac ones are all pretty much different sizes and it dosn't give that ' neat look'.

Also, how do I place a widget onto my desktop?

Thanks, Luke.

I was really looking for somethign that is very similar to the windows sidebar and tthat I could leave them showing all time.

Thanks for you recommendation, but I'd rather have my widgets visible on the desktop at all times. How do I put gadgets from the dashboad onto the desktop?

Honestly, your best bet (though I don't care for it) is Yahoo Widgets (formerly Konfabulator). It's kinda what Dashboard was based on. It'll let you keep them visible all of the time as well.

You guys really aren't helping him. Open up the Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) and type this.

defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES

Hit Enter and now open a widget on the Dashboard, grab it with the cursor, and hit the Dashboard key (it may or may not be F12 depending on your Mac). Now you should have that widget floating above the desktop.

I use this but the only downside is the widget stays on top of everything on your desktop...
