Vista and both ATI and Nvdia drivers really suck right now, regardless that it has Direct X 10.

I'd say XP for at least another 12 months if you want best peformance from your hardware.

I tried both on my MPB with flight simulator X. I went with XP because it used less disk space, but the performance and usability was about the same.

generally xp has better performance, but only slightly.

vista has dx10 and is more future-proof

is dx10 worth it? will i be able to put on higher settings with xp? also the minimal ram for running i on vista is higher, does this mean anything?

also, im planning on getting this with leopard, so the bootcamp will be better compatible with vista, is it still worth getting xp over vista? plus vista is $182 on amazon and xp is $189

When Leopard comes out things would be a lot different. Who knows what drivers will be in the new boot camp. If you want to make one purchase I would say go with Vista. I tried Vista but went with XP because I had XP and was able to sell my copy of Vista on ebay. But I plan to get a mac pro when Leopard comes out and on that machine I will get Vista. BTW for flight simulator X I think the performance is the same with both OS's. But that may change when direct X comes of age,

At this point I don't think I could justify purchasing Windows XP. Windows Vista is Microsoft's current operating system and as drivers mature, performance under Vista will surpass Windows XP. DirectX 10 is inherently faster than DirectX 9. Some programs enhance the graphics when DirectX 10 is enabled, making it slightly slower or the same speed, but it is still faster provided everything else is equivalent. Purchase either Vista Home Premium or Vista Business, depending on your needs.

There is nothing wrong with Home Basic if all you want it for is gaming. Home Basic is just lacking the nice Aero desktop that Home Premium and the other editions have.

I didn't say it was less stable in this thread. Vista is very stable.
