Speak for yourself…I am enjoying 2021. iPhone 11 Pro Max is my primary phone.

I'll probably be enjoying 2023 or so later this year when we upgrade, but not 2025. That'll be a few years now.

This message sent from 2009 by a 2009 MacPro. ;)
How's your 11 Pro Max holding up? I have an 11 Pro and besides running very low on storage, the only issue I have is Siri takes seconds to get going, sometimes even timing out.

It's holding up quite well - but, I also do not use it as a substitute computer, media device or game console either. Not that doing any of that is bad or wrong, I just have multiple computers, TVs and other devices for those things.

I also don't use SIRI, so I can't say your issue is one I've encountered. My phone is the 512GB version so also no worries on capacity. For everything I do use it for (email, texting, some light web browsing) and phone calls it's been working just fine. iOS 18.

I did some casual gaming on it back when I had more free storage and it was fine. I do use it to stream media when I'm at the gym on the elliptical. I don't use Siri often but when I do, I started noticing the slow activation. Apple Watch SE2 is a lot faster. I feel this is the best iPhone I've ever had and I like the build quality over later models. Besides the storage, I'd keep this until it wasn't supported for security updates anymore.

It’s not about the price (for me). I don’t want another device, or having to wear something on my wrist, or another thing to charge every other day. I want my existing device to indicate unread notifications without me having to pick it up.
Agreed. We literally have an orange and a green dot in the DI when using mic or the camera, just add a red one that can optionally be always on when the device is in standby separate from the usual AOD option, which would still be very handy when you’re on low power mode and AOD turns off anyway. Would be a shame for notch iPhones but it would be right in line with 

The problem is people leave hundreds or thousands of unread texts, unanswered calls, unread emails, and voicemails. That red dot would always be on.

But, iPhone is smart enough to know what's a new notification or not dependent upon when you last locked the device though. For instance, if I get a text message and my device is locked it shows as a new message. But if I unlock my screen, do something without opening the Messages app and then lock the phone again, I am not going to see that new text message still on my lockscreen. And it's not going to show it again if another new message comes in. New notifications are only going to continue racking up when you haven't unlocked the device.

Same with email, missed calls and app notifications.

At this moment, I have 1,872 new emails. Emails that were new days, months and some even years ago. I've never opened or answered them. iPhone is not showing on my lockscreen all 1,872 'new' emails. It's only showing new emails since the last time I locked the screen. So, if we're going with a red dot, then I'd have to assume the red dot would turn off when the device is unlocked. And then back on again if there were new notifications after the device was locked again.

it didn't have a red dot, but that's the way the LED Notification ring on my 2008 Touch Pro worked. It only flashed when I got new notifications after locking the screen and then shut off when I unlocked it.

Nobody wants a dumb red notification light anymore. That’s tech from 15 years ago. Also, you can buy an Apple Watch for $300, it’s not $1000.
I’m with you. I resisted Apple Watch since the introduction. Finally caved in and bought one for me and my s/o. I like this better than a notification light since I can keep the phone in my pocket and have the Apple Watch notify me of various messages and what not. And no my s10 wasnt $1,000.

That problem only exists if you have no control over what it’s for.
I really don’t think Apple would make that mistake.
In the end it’s up to the user, just like it’s up to us to either read our emails or turn the badge icon off because we don’t need to be reminded about the 3.210 unread mails every time we see the Mail app.

Sorry but this is a „problem“ solved literally over a decade ago. Apple won’t do it I guess, but if, they would have it be on because any notification.

With OLED screens, especially the always on display ones, is there any reason why Apple couldn't just implement a little red circle that blinks when the screen is off? They don’t even need a hardware LED, just a small software update.

One of the reasons I have to wear an Apple Watch is because it's so easy for me to miss phone calls and messages while my phone is on silent. So if you ask Apple, they'll probably just tell you to buy one of their watches.

LED notifications was great on my Backberry phones. Loved the feature but it is against Apple’s “style” to allow such a useful feature.

I agree with LED style notifications whenever the phone receives a new email, phone call or text message/IM.

The DI could easily give us a colour indication telling us what we’ve received and the flashlight on the rear camera module could be upgraded to provide us with different colour LED notifications.

My only problem with that is that you have to be looking right at the phone when it goes off, or you're going to miss it. The current Accessibility feature for the flash only goes off once (at the time a notification comes in). It does NOT repeat.

Now, if you're meaning that the flashlight could stay ON/Flashing, at say some sort of reduced brightness, that MIGHT be workable. But you'd need to have more than one 'flashlight' led if you have multiple notifications. And I'm saying a reduced brightness, because to have one or three or more 'flashlight' LEDs lit at full brightness I think would hit the battery pretty hard over time. Not to mention being very distracting.

Apple could introduce some smaller, less intense LEDs - but then we're back to something Apple would NOT do.

And none of it matters if you lay your phone down on it's back (if you're like me, which most people aren't).

Yeah, that’s what I mean. I would like Apple to come up with a light cluster with small independent light designed purely to inform the user they’ve received a notification.

The BlackBerry had an app where you could customize the color, blinking, etc. You could just glance at your phone from across the room and see if you had a email, message or missed call. If worked perfectly. I just do not see Apple ever adopting such a thing.

My HTC Touch Pro also has a similar thing, only there was no app to change the patterns/colors and the LED was white. The pattern of the flash is what determined (for the Touch Pro) what notification had come in. Of course, it was only for the newest notification that had arrived, but this was 2008-2009.
