I posted this in the beta thread but maybe it got lost in the shuffle....

Anyone else having an issue with Mail app notifications? Sporadically, I geta visual notification (the screen lights up and I see the notification) but there is no audible. I have that account set to do visual AND audible notifications and in fact, sometimes there ARE audible notifications. But not always.

For a while I thought I was seeing a pattern where things like CNN headline Emails produced audible notifications but not Emails from addresses in my address book. But I tested that theory and unknown addresses are also failing to produce an audible.

Again.... it works sometimes, just not all the time.

Anyone else?

OK, I THINK I figured it out.

I had notifications configured correctly..... visual and audible for my main account and no notifications for other accounts. But I missed the fact that there is now an additional setting under Mail > Notifications > Customize notifications > Primary Inbox. If SOUNDS is turned off in that menu, anything the phone thinks is "primary" (whatever that is) does not produce an audible notification. Not sure I see the logic (it seems backwards) but there it is.

Apparently, the phone (Apple intelligence?) was putting news headline and other non-personal Emails incoming to my main account into the "not primary" inbox (which DID make a notification sound) and my personal mail was being sorted into the "primary" inbox, which seems at some point to have defaulted to alerts only, no sound. Huh??

Thanks Apple Intelligence, you made my life so much better. NOT!
