just got the 3G version and when I tap on the voicemail tab, it calls the voicemail rather than going to the visual voicemail screen. anyone else have this issue?

Now it's asking me for a voicemail password. I have no idea what it is, but I've tried default suggestions found on AT&T's site (111111, my phone number, the last 4 digits of my phone number) but nothing works.

WTF.

same prob here, went from 2.0 1,2 to 1,1 and now I have no VV, just old school voicemail.

fixed it...for whatever reason, the TTY setting is defaulted on in the 1,1 2.0 firmware, giving you that phone/dot icon next to the battery and turning off VV. Go into phone settings and turn it off, and voila VV is back. Hope this helps.

It appears I've encountered this same problem, when I tap the visual-voicemail tab, nothing happens...

The weird thing is they claimed all my voicemail would get erased from my v1 iphone, but it is all there.

I'm having a similar issue. The VV button doesn't always respond to my touch and when it does it refuses to show me the VV screen stays on whatever screen I was on while VV button stays highlighted..weird and not the first issue I've encountered with my 3G iPhone LOL...early adapters syndome oh well

that was my problem. here is how I resolved it. call your mobile number and configure the voicemail that way, giving them a new password etc. then, reset your phone, and there you go, (at least for me) visual voicemail should be working!!!
let me know if my method works for anybody else! if it does, i'm charging 5 bucks a fix.

If that's your problem you should call AT&T customer support (NOT apple iPhone .. you'll have to wait for hours and hours) and make sure you have the data package. I'm not sure how the person who activated my iPhone was able to bypass adding a data package ... but when I got home, I noticed there was no 3G or EDGE symbol and my wireless signal was really low. I couldn't get on the internet, I couldn't send/receive SMS messages, and I couldn't use visual voicemail. All I could do was make and receive phone calls. So I called AT&T support, and the guy added my data package and I was good to go!
