VLC - Disable Subtitles By Default

I've tried various things that I've read while searching - such as setting the subtitle language to none. Had no luck so far. I know how to turn subtitles off, but I want them to remain off by default, so each time I load a file that has subtitles I don't have to disable them.

Am I missing something obvious here?
