All of a sudden, when I watch movies and recorded shows on my IMAC, I'm experiencing lags and hitches. I am watching the movies from external hardrives but I've been doing this for over a year with never a hitch. Any ideas about what could possibly have changed? It's an anoyance..

Apple made an update which turns any external hard drives off if the computer doesnt detect any activity after a certain amount of time, and watching movies/listening to music off one doesnt count as activity. So this should have started after you did an update, anyway to fix this problem do the following:

Go to system preferances
Open Energy Saver Options
Uncheck "Put hard disk to sleep when possible box"

Thanks!!!

I made the change so we'll see what happens. How dare Apple adjust my settings!! :)

Still Lagging

Idle CPU Usage is about 90%. DO I need to restart ??? Odd. This just started recently out of the blue.
