VLC player - constant tearing, solutions?

Does anyone notice a lot of tearing during the beginning of videos in VLC? Are there any reason or solutions to make this stop? Maybe tinkering with the settings?

Or is there are a better video player app?

I like VLC but if your machine doesnt have enough oomph in the CPU or video card department grab Mplayer OS X Extended which allows for you to use multiple cores to have the videos play.

VLC is problematic.

Use Plex.
