VLC player suddenly skipping video frames

I've been using VLC 1.0 for over 6 months now without problems. About a month ago, all my movies started to skip about 1 second worth of footage every 30 seconds or so. This annoying skip occurs with flash, avi, wmv files and doesn't seem to matter which type.

I don't have this problem when using the windows version of VLC on this mac via Parallels... it works just fine. The same videos play fine in QT as well. (with the necessary 3rd party codecs of course).

I wonder what's up?

Clean your preferences using the provided script. I'd take a look at MPlayer OS X Extended as well.
