Guys,

My iMac is linked to my Sony Bravia HDTV via mini-DVI/VGA connector and a VGA extension cable. When I play a video on VLC, I can't get full screen on the TV even though I put both the control window and the movie window on the TV screen.

Each time I double click on the movie, I get full screen on the iMac, not on the TV... I can't figure out what the problem is...

In the Menu bar, Go to Video-->Video Device and choose the Sony screen.

Or at least I think that's how it should work, bit too lazy to try it out

I don't know about VLC but in Quicktime there's a setting for which monitor you want Full Screen to be on :)

I believe there is also a setting to make the secondary display the "first choice" for fullscreen mode.

Yes you can make your external display your main display by going into System Preferences, clicking displays and dragging the menu bar from one blue box to the other.
