VMWare + Boot Camp problems

I've just downloaded the VMWare trial and imported my boot camp partition so I can use them both when the time is relevant.

Soon after I noticed i have 5gb hard drive remaining and found out the VM is actually a clone of the bootcamp partition (so I now have a 35gb partition for bootcamp and another 35gb Boot Camp VM which I guess is just a clone of my partition.

Have I done something wrong or is this just how VMWare works?
