Went to upgrade my VMWare 2 to VMWare 3 at their site and found a perplexing choice.

I received all the .x upgrades for free with versions 1 and 2. Are they talking about a major upgrade here being version 4.x or some sort of point release.

Are we likely to see a major upgrade in the next 12 months? VMWare seems pretty mature as it is.

I think most of the people go with the regular upgrade. The subscription model is basically gambling that vmware will come out with a major version in 12 months.

I went with the regular upgrade because it was cheaper and I don't think vmware will have anything ready in 12 months. Of course the longer you wait the better odds that the subscription will work. I bought my upgrade shortly after version 3.0 hit the streets.
