VMWare Fusion - VM conversion

I've read the VMWare FAQS, they seem to deal purely with importing your current windows install into your mac as a VM.

I have a Linux Live CD VM that WMWare will read on a PC no problem, but Fusion doesn't recognise the filetype on OSX.

Is there a solution for this?
