I've just upgraded from VMware 3 to 4 and now I'm having an issue.

In 3, I could run a VM in full screen and then open another Mac app, such as Safari or Adium, in a window over the top of the VM. In VMware 4, the fullscreen window slides off the edge of the screen as soon as I Cmd-Tab out to another app, and if I click VMware in the Dock then it covers up all the other apps.

How can I get my Mac apps to "float" over the fullscreen VM like I could in VMware 3?

That's how Lion is designed to work with Full-Screen Apps. VMWare Fusion 4 uses the proper API's for full-screen applications, so it follows the rules by default.

Try running it in Unity mode instead of Full Screen, which will allow you to interleave your apps the way you want.

Thanks, Unity mode is working in the interim. I'll contact VMware later if nobody else can help :)
