Hello!
I was given an ipod Touch (3G) back in 2014 and I still use to listen to music. The thing is, my computer broke and I was about to buy a new one before the quarantine started - now it's difficult and almost impossible to buy one - and I'm stuck with a 2004 PowerBook - also, I don't own a smartphone (and do not wish one!).

I'd like to use voice call (my ipod doesnt have a camera) but it seems every app require a more recent OS than my ipod's. Anyone know which voice call app would still be revelent to my good old Ipod? Thank you so much!!

When you say voice call, do you mean telephone, or some sort of VOIP system?

Either way I fear you may be out of luck. What version of iOS is on the iPod?

@TiggrToo My iPod is running on the 5.1.1 OS.
As for the voice call; I don't really mind the "type" of call. I tried download several apps (skype, zoom etc) even though I know my iPod doesnt have a camera, I could still be able to see the person I'm speaking with. But I specified "voice call" because, even if I dont get to see the person, it's fine.

If it makes more sense to explain why I need this, here's why:
I do own a cell phone (not a smartphone, though) and even a fixed home telephone witch which I can call internationaly, unlimited time.
The thing is, I want to call a friend who lives in the US - but, I live in France and he has to pay, even if it is me who call him in the first place. So, the telephone is not an option.
But I figured there might be an app for a iPod that's not *that* old! Well I wish there is one, at least. Otherwise I will need to wait god knows how many months until I can go out and buy a new computer.

Sign up for a free Google Voice # and choose an area code and prefix that's local to your friend. This should allow you to make free VOIP calls over WIFI to the US and your friend won't be charged. As for device, try browsing https://hangouts.google.com on your Powerbook G4. If browser isn't supported look into Lubuntu Linux. Worst case buy an inexpensive ~$20 prepaid Moto G1 (even 2012 model works) to use on WIFI and use Hangouts Dialer app.

@mi7chy Thank you so much! I will try and look out for the google voice trick you gave me. :)
Also, had no idea I could instal Linux on an iPod!
I have thought about installing Linux on my Powerbook before - would that install as a dual boot (I mean, will I still get to access the apple OS 10.4 or will it erase it?). What's the main reason to install Linux/unbuntu on a PowerPC anyway? (to me it was more for safety reasons)
