It works fantastically for me. I mainly use it to call friends, play playlists, and play artists. Accuracy for those things have been spot on for me, including people with Vietnamese last names like Nguyen.

And I tried the "do the evening news voice and then say 'Play songs by Pink Floyd'" and it worked perfectly.

I'm sure some people with different inflections or perhaps timbre will have problems. The iPhone recognition is far better than my old Motorola which I used a lot when driving. In some cases I need to speak phonetically for very unusual names to work but that's hardly a chore and it works like a charm.

This feature was pretty important to me when I bought the 3GS and I was quite surprised at how well it worked given some of the things I threw at it.

Are you guys just being fanboys? Or do really think that it's that great?

To me I think it's about the same as older voice controls on old phones.

I was expecting a leap. Like the the leap from the touchscreen tech in old phones/devices before the iPhone and how the iPhone touchscreen was like a total leap forward.

I'm nate hating on it, but every time I say "Computer Arch" nothing happens

It really does work that well.

Seconded. My brother and both of my sisters (one of which has a slight southern accent) recently got the 3GS and not once have they complained of the voice control not working properly. With that being said, my brother is the only one who uses it frequently (a few times a day) and he claims it has worked for him every time (I'm sure he's exaggerating some).

I call either broken iphone or troll. Like the rest of you (except the OP), it works exactly as intended for me.

Yea, really. I don't see how a "Play Album XXXXXX" can lead to "Call XXXXX".

Either troll, broken iPhone or he has a horrible speech impediment and he's too self conscious about to admit to it.

Sounds stupid I'm sure, but try farting into the phone after activating voice command. 2 out of 3 times mine has started playing an album.

Um, I had some trouble to begin with and it kept calling this girl I liked and I was like NO NO NO NO when asking to play artists. But I really think it's your choice of words.

OK confirmed speech impediment?

I mean, seriously, how much contrary evidence do you need?

OK I guess you guys are right it works perfectly every single time. It's the biggest revolution in voice control ever.

Do you guys use the voice control 100% of the time now?

I can't believe you guys think it's so great.

I don't think it's broke or I have a speech disorder because it works Ok most of the time for me, but at other times it's just so bad it's funny. I think it's completely impractical to use though and does not save me any time doing a task.

But most you agree that other voice control systems work just as well (like motorola phones, onstar) That was my point, if like them you will love this, otherwise it's just a novelty to impress your friends.

You guys gonna tell me that the GPS is 100% awesome too?

EDIT: What I meant by using it over and over again, is by just trying in a row, like try 20 or so voice commands in one sitting to test it out.

Man, how many times are you going to repeat the same rant in this thread? What are you 13 or something!? You obviously don't get it...

YOU are the problem with the voice control! It is NOT the same as the old Motorola phones (someone already confirmed that) and everyone else keeps saying it works for them better than ok, yet you continue to deny it's you, your voice or your phone, so in your mind it must be everyone else just being "fanboys". Grow up TROLL!

Yeah I just used it for the first few times, and I've used to to show off to friends. I haven't had one failure yet, I'm sorry to inform you that you cannot speak the English language very well.

I like how these days whenever someone genuinely likes something from Apple they have to be a fanboy, Apple-apologist, belonging to the Cult of Mac, etc. Yeah there are some crazy fanboys, but not everyone is one.

The last phone I had that had voice dialing made me pre-record myself saying that contacts name. I didn't just understand me, I had to teach it to understand me.
This. And even then it still didn't work half the time (in my experience).

Voice Control definitely does NOT work perfectly. It has a really hard time with some band/song names. There are some that I can't get it to recognize no matter what and it's frustrating. But the rest of the time — most of the time — IT JUST WORKS, with no setup required. I use it regularly in my car with the phone mounted on the console a fair distance from my mouth. Even with the windows down, it recognizes my voice perfectly every time (even if it doesn't understand the name I'm giving it, it's not any worse than if I were holding the phone to my face). I just wish I could launch apps with it.

We don't think it's the biggest revolution ever. No one said that. It just works well.

Thats all Im saying. If you liked voice control on other stuff you will love this.

If not it's about the same.

Actually it's almost exactly the same as the voice control on Mac OS X.

As for 90% (maybe a little less 75%) being right thats about how close it gets with me too, but when it's wrong it's really wrong lol.

Sometimes I am amazed at it (number dialing), other times it's like WTF? I was just trying to let people know that this feature is not worth upgrading from a 3G to a 3G-S if you did not like previous voice control systems. There are many other reasons to upgrade though (video, Speed).
